Peter Collis has devoted over 40 years to working with clay, exploring form and surface through his elegant sculptures.

His practice embraces delicate ring shapes, curvilinear forms, orbs, pure-form vessels, and wall sculptures—each finished with lustre and crackle glazes, textured slips, or rich, layered colours. Every surface reveals the rhythm of his hand and his mastery of multiple ceramic techniques.

Collis draws inspiration from the New Zealand landscape and travels to regions with deep ceramic traditions, such as Japan, infusing his work with a sense of place, history, and quiet experimentation. His pieces evoke the poetry of natural forms and the subtle dialogue between material, process, and imagination.

Since 1978, he has exhibited widely in New Zealand and abroad, participating in over 200 group shows and 50 solo exhibitions. His work is held in numerous public and private collections and has been presented as official gifts by the New Zealand Government, including to Nelson Mandela and civic leaders in Taiwan and British Columbia.
